Game Overview
Starship Combat Simulator is a turn-based game of Starship Combat where you take command of as many ships as you want, or that are allowed by the game creator, in an attempt to accomplish the game objects.   There are four types of games that you can play:
  • Deathmatch
  • Capture The Flag
  • Elimination
  • Assimilation

The number of ships you can use is determined by the amount of game points that have been allocated for that particular game and the cost of each ship.  For the current list of available ships and their cost (in game points) click here.

Deathmatch Overview
In a Deathmatch game, players compete to be the dominant force.   Each player begins the game with their full compliment of starships and may use all ships in their fleet each turn.   The game ends either after a specified number of turns, or when only one player (or team) remains in the game with useable ships, or when all other players have surrendered.

Capture The Flag Overview
In a Capture The Flag game, players compete to tractor and return a flag ship from their enemies base to their own.   Each player begins the game with their full compliment of starships and may use all the ships in their fleet each turn.   The game ends either after a specified number of turns, a specified number of flag captures, or when there is only one player (or team) remaining in the game with useable ships.

Elimination Overview
In an Elimination game, players compete to be the last one standing.   Each player begins the game with a random ship from their fleet and may use only one ship until it becomes unusable, then another ship is randomly selected from their fleet and released.   Play continues until only one player (or team) remains in the game with a useable ship.

Assimilation Overview
In an Assimilation game, players compete to capture each other's ships.   Each player begins the game with the full complement of ships from their fleet and may use all ships in their fleet each turn.   Play continues until only one player (or team) remains in the game with a useable ship.

System Features
This section will be updated as we implement additonal features.
Currently the system is comprised of the following:
  • SCS SQL Database - This is NOT freely distributed. If you want to create your own SCS system, contact Mark.
  • SCS WebServer - This is NOT freely distributed. If you want to create your own SCS system, contact Mark.
  • SCS Lobby Server - This is NOT freely distributed. If you want to create your own SCS system, contact Mark.
  • SCS Game Server - This is NOT freely distributed. If you want to create your own SCS system, contact Mark.
  • SCS Client - This is freely distributed, source code and all.

Some cool new features just added:
  • Private Lobby Servers are available (these might be used for Clans, etc).
  • SCS Client is globalized (now we just need some more translations)
  • SCS Client subsystems can be placed anywhere within the SCS Client screen.
You can check out the development goals and progress here: Development Checklist.

This is NOT FASA's Game
This game is NOT the FASA Starship Combat Simulator you may remember from the '80s.   The basic idea is there, that you control a starship and have to allocate your shields, weapons, and movement, but it has evolved so much that it is hardly recogizable as that old game.   Unfortunately, FASA has not decided to create this type of a game for us to enjoy, so we had to do it.   We are in no way affiliated with FASA, Paramount Pictures, or any other copyright holders of Star TrekTM or Starship Combat Simulator games.   No copyright infringement is intended through this website nor software.   The client can be used to play with ships other than Star TrekTM through user-made "mods".   The website is free to join and the Client is free to download and use.   You should never pay anyone to use this website or the client software.   The advertisements/gift shop items/tournament entrance fees on this website are used solely to pay for the webspace, design/maintenance of this site and client software, and for purchasing tournament prizes.

Background
This program stems from the Star TrekTM Starship Combat Simulator game from FASA.   In that game, you would control starships from the Star TrekTM series and movies.   We used to play that game a whole bunch, and in doing so, we expanded the rules to include the Next Generation ships and modified the rules to allow for a better game play experience.   We have continued to improve that basic rule set, and have game tested our modifications extensively.   Now that we want to be able to play over the Internet, we figured that we would allow others to join us, gathering feedback as to how to improve the game, and creating a home for all of the Starship Combat Simulator veterans out there.   This website and client software was created to allow newbies and veterans to enjoy Starship Combat Simulator in a new way.
