INFORMATION The SCS Client is the FREE game client available to play the online game: Starship Combat Simulator. This game client is offered free of charge and you should never pay to download it. To obtain the latest version, please visit http://www.starshipcombatsimulator.com OVERVIEW The Starship Combat Simulator game is an online multiplayer game based on the old FASA Star Trek: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator system. Our version, however, has gone way beyond those meager beginnings. In the words of the lead designer, Sean Kinsella: History of the game A company called FASA originally started the starship combat game. The ships created in this game are based on the game created by FASA, but modified to incorporate newer alien races and newer alien ships. Most of what has been added to the game is from observation and speculation in the Star Trek TV series, movies and the information researched from the Internet. In some cases, the game information has been significantly modified from the original and may be considerably different from what other Star Trek players may imagine. Basic information about the game The Star Trek Starship Combat Game allows the player to put themselves in command of a starship (or many starships) of different alien races to attack, defend, or ally with other alien races. Although the world of Star Trek is not about attacking other alien races, this game focuses on battle and warfare. INSTALLING THE SCS CLIENT The SCS Client no longer needs to be installed. Please use ADD/REMOVE programs to remove any previously installed versions of SCS Client, or this one might not work. To “install” the client, simply unpack the files (retaining the directory structure) to any folder you want to use. The only thing to note is that the Data folder MUST be Read/Write set since that is where the data files will be stored during a game. RUNNING THE SCS CLIENT To run the SCS Client, simply double-click on the Starship Combat Simulator client executable (SCS_Client.exe) located in the unpacked directory. If you want to add an icon to your desktop or start menu, you will have to do so manually. When the SCS Client starts up you should see a Splash Screen with some credits on it and the status of loading the globalization and customization files as well as the status of contacting the lobby server. Once connection has been established between the SCS Client and the Lobby Server, the Splash Screen will go away and you will be presented with the Log In Screen. LOGGING INTO THE LOBBY You must have an active SCS-Online User Account in order to log into the lobby server. If you do not have one, or if your account has not been activated, please visit http://www.starshipcombatsimulator.com to create a new account or to activate an existing account. Once you have successfully logged into the Lobby Server the SCS client will change. The Log In Screen will move to the top left hand side of the screen that is your primary desktop screen (in the case of multiple monitors this means the one that has the Start menu bar on it) and the Chat Window will drop down from the top of the primary desktop screen and the Server List will slide in from the left hand side of the primary desktop screen. USING THE CHAT WINDOW The chat window is the window that displays messages sent to and from the server that you are currently logged into. When you log in to the lobby, a message is sent to all users who are currently in the lobby announcing your arrival. When you log out of the lobby (either by logging off the system or by logging into a game server) the system will announce to those who remain in the lobby that you have left the lobby. You may not send messages to any server that you are not currently logged in to. This means that if you leave the lobby to join another server, none of your messages that you send after leaving the lobby will be delivered to the lobby but only to the new server. When you leave a server, a message is sent to everyone still on that server that you have left that server and a message is sent to the lobby announcing your arrival back into the lobby. There are three buttons that may or may not show up on the chat window: 1) Send To All 2) Send To Enemy 3) Send To Team The Send To All button is only visible when you are in a server that allows public messages (this is basically all servers). When you type a message in the chat input box and hit ENTER on your keyboard, Send To All is the default button that is fired off. The Send To Enemy button is only visible when you are in a game server. When you click this button, the chat message you have typed is sent only to those players who are currently logged into that same game server and are not flagged as being part of your team. In the case of a free-for-all game, clicking Send To Enemy is the same as clicking Send To All. The Send To Team button is only visible when you are in a game server. When you click this button, the chat message you have typed is sent only to those players who are currently logged into that same game server and are flagged as being part of your team. In the case of a free-for-all game, this button will not be visible. The chat window can be resized by right-clicking on the title and selecting "". You can move the chat window by clicking on the title and dragging your mouse. To restore the chat window to it's original location, right-click on the title and choose "". The chat window will slide up to the top of the screen and disappear when you log out of the lobby server. USING THE SERVER LIST WINDOW The server list window is the window that lists all the available servers and their scheduled events. There are four types of events that can be scheduled on a server: 1) Game Event 2) Chat Event 3) Tournament Event 4) Clan War Event The Game Event is an event that is a game. This is a Starship Combat Simulator game that can be played based on the options and rules selected by the player who created the game. Please see the Game Editor section for more information on creating a Game Event. The Chat Event is an event that is not a game. This is a simple event that is used to gather players together to discuss something online. The development team will use this feature to schedule development chats (some public, some private). Clans may use this feature to hold meetings. This feature will also be used for automation of information (such as the Information Server does). Please see the Chat Editor section for more information on creating a Chat Event. The Tournament Event is a game event that has been designated as a tournament. Most tournaments will have an entrance fee associated with it which will be used to pay for the prizes awarded at the end of the tournament. Please see the Tournament Editor section for more information on creating a Tournament Event. The Clan War Event is a game played between two or more clans. You must belong to one of the clans in order to participate. Please see the Clan War Editor section for more information on creating a Clan War Event. . . . |
